BMX BIRTHDAY IN DENTON/DALLAS TX

Over my birthday weekend I went to the Dallas area and rode Louisville and Allen Skateparks with Anna and BeeCam!  We also went to a college bar and it took me back some years...hehe.  Was a much needed girls trip for all of us.

Welp.....It's been awhile since my last post!

I have done about 4 races since my last post and finished the 2011 TORCS season with first place in Women's A!  I am pretty excited about it since this is only my second season to race.  I couldn't have done it without the help from my man, Bob!  He has spent countless hours showing me how to work on my bike and getting it ready for the race's.  Just before my last race we put in a new top end which consisted of a new piston and rings, seating the valves, and deglazing the cylinder wall to seat the new rings.  Over the past 2 years I have got to see the inside of both my 2-stroke and 4-stroke and how they work.  This season was a tough battle between all the ladies in this class which proves that I will have to work much harder next season for the championship title.  I would like to thank Motorex and MSR for their support and look forward to working with them next year.
Stay posted for more updates and photos from TORO races until the next TORCS season begins.
Here are some photos from the last few races.

Three Palms Vet National 9/4/11

Here are some pics from my first all moto race. I raced in the over 25 men's C class.    There were only 2 other guys in the class who blew my doors off. haha. I still had an awesome time none the less.  I think I could get used to moto races if they were all at tracks that were as fun as this place!

Rio Bravo August 17th 109degrees!!!!

This past race was held at Rio Bravo, a legendary track that has been around since the 70’s.  Two weeks prior, I came out to get some more seat time on my new bike and to get acquainted with the track.  The weekend of the race turned out to be hotter than hell!  It was Houston’s hottest day ever recorded, topping out at 109 degrees.  I started the race with the right mindset, to survive and just trail ride.  I did just that and managed to get into first place when 1st and 2nd made mistakes right on top of each other.  I kept my steady pace just flowing the trails and not pushing myself too hard.  After about the 2nd or 3rd lap my bike started acting up, like it was running out of gas.  I let off a little on the moto track so I would not cartwheel if my bike decided to shutoff on a jump.  At one point, I pulled over on the track, opened the gas cap, and could not tell if there was any gas so I switched to reserve and kept going.  It was fine for a short while and then started acting up again, which made me pull over two more times.  I ended up finishing 4th and later figured out why my bike had been running out of gas.  I cut part of a camel back hose and used it for my vent tube b/c the one I had cracked.  The inside of the hose melted when the gas splashed into it and caused the bike to vapor lock so I basically did run out of gas until I would open the gas cap and vent each time.  Haha…another lesson learned. :)

6/2011 COLORADO TRIP

OK sorry I have not been posting anything for awhile.  It has just been too dang hot here to do much riding of any kind.  I have loaded all the photos of our latest trip to COLORADO!  It was so beautiful and the weather was perfect.  We couldn't have asked for a better week to go.  We got to go to the National Motocross at Thundervally in Denver, on Saturday 6/25/11.
Thundervally moto track Denver, CO
The next day we pinned it up the mountain to Sol Vista to do some downhilling.  This was my first time riding downhill and I loved it. We pretty much stayed on the Silky Johnson trail all day.  The next day we went to Winter Park, CO.  We loved this place so much that we rode here 2 days and rented badass downhill bikes on the 2nd day.  We didn't want to leave Winter Park, but it was time to go do some camping and dirt biking.  We headed up the pass and landed in Rand, CO, pulled in to our secluded camp spot and immediately saw a moose grazing in the pasture! This spot was incredible b/c we were far from town way in the mountains without a sole around and had about 60 miles of single track trails straight out of camp all to ourselves.  We rode here for 2 1/2 days and then decided that we better leave and head to Rampart Range before it got crowded with the 4th of July crew.  We were able to get some evening riding in the night we got here and then we got up the next morning and rode about 2 hours before breakfast to work up our appetite.  We came back cooked bacon and eggs and then headed back out for another 2 hours of riding.  Around noon we took the "bar trail" and it lead us straight down the mountain to
Sprucewood bar in Rampart
this bar called Sprucewood.  We had burger's and beer's for lunch and got a little loose before heading back up the mountain to the other side where we were camped.  We headed out that night to go ride a skate-park in Colorado Springs, which turned out to be an awesome place with lots of different stuff to ride.  This was day 7 of downhill, bmx, and dirt biking and our body's were worn out so we headed south back to Austin, TX.  Every year we go to Colorado our vacations get better and better at the rate we are going we might go on vacation one year and never come back to TX.  :)

May 21, 2011 Heffley Ranch

This past race was held at Heffley’s Ranch in Columbus, Texas.  It was a wide-open fast-paced sandy course with very little tight woods.  We got a very little bit of rain the night before, just enough to hold the dust down for the Saturday race.  We all did a cooky start, which was, the bike running in neutral with us facing the bike in front of the front wheel looking backwards at the flagger.
I took off and was third off the line.  I trailed one and two for half a lap. First place dug the front tire down in deep sand and fell and second place didn’t make a move fast enough to get around so I railed both of them on the far outside.  I held first place for the first couple of laps then second place caught me and passed me.  I then trailed her until she fell in the tight woods.  I passed her by going through little trees on the left side with third place, now going to second, behind me.  I was back in first place again for the last few laps.  On the fifth lap, second place caught up to me and passed me.  I then trailed her only for a little while taking every inside line on the corner and cranking the throttle wide open.  I soon passed her and was off again in first place for the last mile of the course.  I came around a corner with the throttle pinned only for it to bog.  The float in the carburetor had hung up.  I grabbed a stick, banged on the carb for a bit, and then started it back up.  By the time I was off again, second place had already passed me leaving me to finish second.
This was probably the most fun I have had racing yet.  Being able to hold the throttle wide open in 4th and 5th gear is always a blast, but especially when it’s over 90 degrees.  I ended up finishing 17th overall If my carburetor would have held out I would have finished 7th or 8th overall.

ANGEL FIRE, NEW MEXICO MAY 15TH

Here is a link to more photos of the trip http://rockettesauce.shutterfly.com/pictures/236

This past weekend I did a WEBE race in Angel Fire, New Mexico.  Being from Texas, this was by far the most technical race I have done yet.  I did one lap in practice and decided to save my energy for the race the next day.  It rained the night before my race and I was thinking….I’m just going to scratch and get my money back since it will probably be wet and even more gnarly….but I didn’t.  While we were lined up ready to go, right before my race started, they told us it had snowed up on top of the mountain the night before.  I knew I had to ride smart just to finish the race before and even more so now.
It was a dead engine uphill start on the ski slope.  I tried taking off in first gear a few times with no luck, before my line took off.  I finally got it to fire up and decided to start in first.  This turned out to be a mistake b/c the bike would not start when my line took off, so I had to start it in neutral, and by that time, I was the very last person off the line for the whole race.  My 125 was struggling to make it up the mountain, but I just held it wide open in either 1st or 2nd  gear and it got the job done.
The most technical part of the race was a super steep downhill section that was about 100 yards long and all rock!  Someone in practice went end over end down this hill and landed in the hospital probably because they got going too fast and tried to slow down pitching them off the front.  It was the scariest and hardest thing I have had to go down and I managed to get down it successfully all 4 times without falling.  I finished 2nd in the women’s class and 61 out of 81 in the C race.  Not too bad considering I mainly ride sand and I was the last one off the line.

RUSTY'S WALNUT CREEK APRIL 30TH

The congo line of ladies!

We raced at my favorite property this last race, Rusty’s Walnut Creek.  The start was off the bike to the left with bike in gear running.  I practiced it a few times standing on my starting blocks and decided to do it in 2nd gear.  I got a decent jump but just did not pin it enough in the first corner.  I was 3rd back trailing the other two girls just flowing out the turns putting pressure on them.  We Congo lined for almost the entire first lap.  4th place passed me at one point on the first lap, and started stalling it in every corner (not sure how with an auto clutch).  After the 2nd or 3rd corner I railed through from behind knowing that she would hit the electric start and try to battle with me again.  I just held my line and she t-boned me trying to knock me off my bike.  Since I knew this was her plan, I was ready for it and so it didn’t mess up my drive.  I pinned it from there and never looked back leaving her in the dust.  2nd place ended up going down in the deep sand and I managed to maneuver quickly on the outside to get around.  I kept up the pace and didn’t let off.  The battle this year between all the women has been amazing.  We push each other to go bigger, better, and faster.  I ended up finishing 23rd out of 68.  This property was voted best track of the year for a good reason!
I am getting ready for my next non TORCS race in Angel Fire, NM on may 15th!

TEXAS EXTREME BRAZOS VALLEY April 17th

This was my first time racing anything other than TORCS.  I decided to check out this race series since we had already raced this property in TORCS and it was a lot of fun.  Everything in this series was so much different and more “laid back”.  This series is not as big as TORCS, so on Saturdays all afternoon is practice, which is fun.  I went out and did 2 laps on sat and just had a great time riding.  Their laps are about 4 miles longer than TORCS, so the trail also doesn’t get as beat-up either.
There are only about 2 or 3 women that ride the series so they ride in the men’s B and C classes, so I signed up for the open C class.  It was a dead engine start, so I decided to start in 2nd gear.  My bike lit, but I stalled it immediately b/c I didn’t gas it enough. I was at the back of the pack just eating dust.  I came up on the first easy/hard split and took the hard.  As I went down the hill there were 2 people in the bottom stalled out and it threw me off so I down shifted to 1st, but mistakenly shifted to neutral and realized on the uphill.  I quickly tried to shift to first but it was too late and I rolled back down the hill.  This series also doesn’t have sweepers to help people get their bikes out so I was down in this “V” trying to turn my bike around and get it out. It was so hot that I ended up taking my helmet off and cooling down for a bit. By the time I got my bike out I was so far behind it didn’t matter how hard I pushed it.  I just used this race for seat time and just to have fun with it. since I wasn’t battling for points I was able to just relax and trail ride the rest of the race.  Brazos Valley is a very unique and challenging course with over 300 acres at this property there will always be something new and interesting to ride here.
