Three Palms Vet National 9/4/11

Here are some pics from my first all moto race. I raced in the over 25 men's C class.    There were only 2 other guys in the class who blew my doors off. haha. I still had an awesome time none the less.  I think I could get used to moto races if they were all at tracks that were as fun as this place!

Rio Bravo August 17th 109degrees!!!!

This past race was held at Rio Bravo, a legendary track that has been around since the 70’s.  Two weeks prior, I came out to get some more seat time on my new bike and to get acquainted with the track.  The weekend of the race turned out to be hotter than hell!  It was Houston’s hottest day ever recorded, topping out at 109 degrees.  I started the race with the right mindset, to survive and just trail ride.  I did just that and managed to get into first place when 1st and 2nd made mistakes right on top of each other.  I kept my steady pace just flowing the trails and not pushing myself too hard.  After about the 2nd or 3rd lap my bike started acting up, like it was running out of gas.  I let off a little on the moto track so I would not cartwheel if my bike decided to shutoff on a jump.  At one point, I pulled over on the track, opened the gas cap, and could not tell if there was any gas so I switched to reserve and kept going.  It was fine for a short while and then started acting up again, which made me pull over two more times.  I ended up finishing 4th and later figured out why my bike had been running out of gas.  I cut part of a camel back hose and used it for my vent tube b/c the one I had cracked.  The inside of the hose melted when the gas splashed into it and caused the bike to vapor lock so I basically did run out of gas until I would open the gas cap and vent each time.  Haha…another lesson learned. :)
