2013 Annual Colo-RAD-o Summer Vacation

Here are some photos from our recent trip to Colorado this past August.  Three white 15 passenger vans 7 dudes, 1 chick, and a dog.  Sounds like a bad sitcom.  Turned out to be a great vacation even with 7 man-children.

Bob bought a brand new 2013 Chevy Express 15-passenger van a week before we were to leave for Colorado.  We loaded her up after work friday evening and pinned it up to Salida, Colorado, where we met up with our buddies from Texas that had left earlier in the day.
Rare RJ sighting.  I think he only came out once the whole trip.

Clay Clark, Martin Howell, Billy Chedsey, Bobby Whitmire and I rode all day.  This was the creek at the end of Dr. Park Gulch.  After this pitstop we hit Lilly Pond Trail and then hit the gnarliest section of Star Trail ever.  My poor linkage got a little banged up.  We eventually had to turn around and head back out because the trail kept getting harder and harder.  We were already gassed by the time we got to that section anyway.  It turned out to be great enduro training though.  Clay and Martin took the pro lines all the way to the top of Star Trail.

About to hit Star Trail.
After a full day of riding we ran into the rest of our group right as we cam back out of Star Trail.  It was a good thing they saw us when they did or they would have been stuck on that trail for sometime.  Right after this picture was taken Rafael wadded it up pretty dang bad on a wooden bridge crossing a creek.  He almost broke his neck when he hit the side of the bridge.  He is such a tough Croatian dude though!
Always keep a positive attitude and it will take you where you need to go.

Bob, Billy, and I riding with our motors off down the switchbacks back and forth, back and forth.  It was so beautiful riding in the Aspen's.

Say what Uncle Burnz?

This was our 2nd camp spot during the trip.  After the first half of the week we packed up and headed to Sargents, CO to hit different trail.  We rode Aggate Creek Trail one day and saw a really old car near the trail that had flipped off of Highway 50 in Salida.  This car had probably been there for 20 something years.  The road looked as if it was over a hundred feet up from where the car landed.  It was kind of an eerie feeling knowing that someone plunged to their death right where you are riding.  I was bummed that I forgot to bring my phone that day.  I am sure we will go back there one day.

Super creepy Pet Cemetery in Salida, CO.  Just reading the names of the pets and the dates on the markers made me sad.  Those pets were truly loved.

Taking a night ride on the road above our camp spot in Sargents, CO.  The mountain directly across from where we were riding was glowing white.  The evening sun was reflecting off of the stone on the top of that mountain.

We headed out of CO on a saturday evening after we rode the Rainbow Trail in Sargents, CO.  We made our way to the Bishops Castle.  A true handcrafted work of art.  Above you can see my outline and Ricky's ears to the left of me.  Rick, Bob, and I climbed all the way to the top of the tower.  This bridge we were standing on was super sketchy!  It was swaying with the wind and moved when you moved.  To read more about this magnificent piece of art check out the website:  http://www.bishopcastle.org

The dragon is said to be a fire breathing dragon.  Mr. Bishop installed a hot air balloon burner inside and he cranks it up on summer nights.  We missed that spectacle.

The Quagmires last stop in Colorado before we headed home!  So long Colorado.....until next year!!
